Kosovo Architecture Festival "Certain Uncertainties"
This year marks the 12th edition of the biggest architecture event in Kosovo, the Kosovo Architecture Festival, which will be held in Prishtina from the 1st till the 15th of July.
Although this year we decided not to have a specific theme to the event, as always KAF will be focusing on issues such as sustainability, reuse, decarbonization and inclusive design. With the support of the Getty Foundation "Keeping it Modern" Initiative, as part of the Festival, KAF will be organizing one of the largest gathering of modern architecture seminars under the theme of "New Perspectives for Modern Architecture in South-Eastern Europe". The KiM Seminar will be held from the 1st till the 4th of July.
This year the Foundation decided to invite 3 creative fellows (collectives) with a diverse background. Ena Kukic and Dinko Jelecevic of E+D studio are a Sarajevo born, Graz based duo of architects with a baggage of creative works behind themselves. In their research Ena & Dinko will be researching the modern heritage in Prishtina, with a focus on the monuments. They will be contributing to the Festival with a public lecture and a 3 day workshop with students and young architects.
The second collective of LINA fellows are the landscape architects Erica Chladova and Robert van der Pol of Dutch LMNL Studio. For a week Erica and Robert will be conducting a visioning and hands on workshop for the Fondacioni 17 garden. The workshop will present a participatory & highly collaborative way of designing a semi-public space. The workshop participants will be composed of members of the neighborhood, users of the city library, members of Fondacioni 17 as well as students of the Prishtina University Architecture Faculty.
The third fellows selected by KAF is Blerta Kambo, an Albanian photographer and visual artist. Blertas research will be focused on of Prishtina's most iconic buildings the "Boro & Ramiz" Youth and Sports Center, a once thriving social condenser built in the 80's is now an enlisted, semi-derelict structure that's in need of serious conservation, regeneration and adaptive reuse, and our goal is for the above to start with a new perspective on the story of Boro & Ramiz, curated by Blerta.
