Architecture & the Media

The European Conference on Architecture and the Media 2025 has explored communication territories beyond traditional media that contribute to generating content about and around architecture, influencing public knowledge and perception of the field.
The fourth edition of Architecture and the Media, next to exploring the general topics of the event, has invited journalists, communication professionals and architects to reflect on how events, festivals and awards shape the dissemination of architecture-related news and influence public perception of the discipline.
The event took place from 26 to 27 May 2025 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, within the framework of Barcelona Setmanes d’Arquitectura, the EUmies Awards Talks and the LINA collaboration.

Architecture and the Media is co-organised by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and Labóh, with the support of Creative Europe, as part of the dissemination program of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards. Curated by Miriam Giordano, expert in communications and PR for architecture and design, the conference is conceived as a place to meet and exchange experiences on the dissemination of architecture through the media.
On both 26 and 27 May, Lara Monacelli and Jacopo Biffi (Atelier Remoto and Alte Sfere), streamed the event life from RadioLINA and interviewed people participating in the roundtables and from the audience.
On 27 May, the two LINA teams, Lab212 and Atelier Remoto+Alte Sfere delivered the workshop as follows:
10:00 – 12:00 h
Workshop
Architecture of the invisible
Workshop by Nicolas Guichard and Béatrice Lartigue (Lab 212)
The workshop revolved around the case study of the ephemeral installation Ombres Blanches, which gives materiality to the data of our wireless networks in the outdoor space of the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. With a background in Media and Interaction Design, the Lab212 collective uses new media tools to create installations that explore our perception of space and sound. Workshop participants will be introduced to the concepts and methodology of Lab212’s work, exploring the materialisation of invisible physical events that immerse visitors in a space whose rules are partly written and partly in progress.
12:30 – 14:00 h
Roundtable Architecture of the invisible
Roundtable with Nicolas Guichard and Béatrice Lartigue (Lab 212) alongside Jacopo Biffi (Alte Sfere) and Lara Monacelli (Atelier Remoto)
After the workshop, Béatrice Lartigue and Nicolas Guichard engaged in a discussion with Lara Monacelli and Jacopo Biffi, exploring subjects pertaining to architecture, communication and society, viewed through the enriching lens of the convergence of art, science and technology. Moderated by Ivan Blasi (Fundació Mies van de Rohe).
The two teams also participated in the rest of the roundtables in the first row and had the opportunity to network with the other guests during lunches, dinners and coffee breaks.
The event concluded with a presentation of the 2026 World Capital of Architecture in Barcelona and the UIA Congress.
