A Guidebook on Urban Degrowth
Bridging the gap between technical spatial data and actionable urban strategy defines my trajectory as an architect, urban researcher, and computational designer. As the founder of Stratum.Earth, a spatial intelligence and urban analytics practice, I leverage advanced geospatial workflows, Python data pipelines, and interactive web mapping to translate complex environmental, demographic, and behavioral datasets into strategic decision-support tools for sustainable planning, civic-tech, and social-impact contexts.
My multidisciplinary background is grounded in a Master in City and Technology from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and a Bachelor of Architecture from India. Over a four-year professional history, I have engineered data-driven workflows across sustainability, urban design, and architectural domains. Key contributions include developing a municipality-level urban energy-poverty diagnosis tool integrating cadastral data at Societat Organica, automating spatial analysis to structure over 150 masterplans at Urbanitarian, and leading the Phase II design for the K100 Citizen’s Waterway in Bengaluru—a 13 km stormwater revitalisation that expanded pedestrian public realm by 30% and enhanced ecological indicators.
Driven by an interest in machine learning for urban morphology, circular economy frameworks, and ecological connectivity, my work focuses on building climate-resilient urban systems. This commitment is reflected in my recognition as a winner of the Erasmus+ Green Skills for Cities (G4C) program and the international publication and exhibition of my speculative architecture thesis. Joining the LINA platform will enable me to scale these digital methodologies, champion resource circularity, and collaborate on co-creating adaptive, climate-responsive European futures.
“A Guidebook on Urban Degrowth” delves into integrating degrowth strategies within urban planning to foster a shift towards an equitable urban future. This study centers around a pivotal research question: How can current literature on degrowth be translated into practical applications in city planning to guide urban areas toward enhanced social well-being and ecological equity? It aims to develop a guidebook for cities to transition from traditional economic models, characterized by high consumption and emissions, towards models emphasizing environmental balance and social equity. In urban economics and city planning, this paradigm shift provides a fresh perspective on the development of the built environment in Barcelona, which is experiencing over-tourism, creating social segregation and environmental degradation. Planning a degrowth society is crucial in the period of climate crises and this is further elaborated in an applied case in the context of Barcelona. By doing so, the proposal contributes to the growing discourse on 'Degrowth in Urban Planning' and 'Degrowth in Tourism', emphasizing inclusive approaches that respect ecological limits and prioritize human well-being.
