Pensioner's home

May 2024

Sarajevo, BiH

The concept of the film stems from the increasingly dominant paradigm of gentrification in cities. Authentic buildings, such as a Pensioner's home (Dom penzionera) in Sarajevo, are disappearing from space and are being replaced by more and more uniform buildings intended for capital and consumption, which do not bring added value to the city. This project is marked as an interdisciplinary project as collaborations were made not only with Rebeka Bratož Gornik (LINA Fellow) but also with the Academy of performing arts of University of Sarajevo_professor and actor Emir Fejzić and his 3 students, dancer Daniel Proietto and a wide range of young creatives.

We are creating a short film through which we want to record the last days of the 'Dom Penzionera Nedžarići', or in English: nursing home Nedžarići. This representative of Bosnian postmodernist architectural heritage is threatened with removal in order to build a complex of commercial contents. On top of that, whole architectural and technical documentation of the building was lost in the last war (90s). Meaning, once the building is gone, hardly anything will keep the memory of it. Besides Rebeka, a partner on this project is Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo. The movie choreography is being developed as a semestral project in subject 'Movement' lead by professor Emir Fejzić. It is important to mention that students are not students of dance, but acting. In this 'Movement' class they explore modern dance.

Movie is produced in April-May-and-June 2024, while the post-production will be done throughout the summer, culminating in the first ever premiere of the movie during the LINA Sarajevo Conference in October 2024.
